Promotion of agroforestry in Zambia

MARGE assists SNV in their project “Promotion of agroforestry for wood and non-wood forest products in Katete district, Eastern Province, Zambia - Analysis of the Charcoal Value Chain”. The overall objective of the project is to ensure increased and diversified income to smallholder farm households from agroforestry systems, while sustainably produced wood and non-wood forest products from trees grown outside forests contribute to reduced deforestation and forest degradation in Zambia. Under this project, MARGE’s role is to support the development of a sustainable charcoal value chain. The first step of this support is to carry out a baseline study on the charcoal value chain in Katete District. A first mission in Zambia was held in August. Another one is planned at mid-September.
