Feasibility Study for the German FC project “Green People’s Energy for Africa: Mozambique”

The main objective of the project is to provide KFW and the German Financial Cooperation with suggestions on different mini-grid management models suitable for the Mozambican context. The study team will also provide details on the financial support required to effectively roll out these models. The Study consists of two elements : (i) a market assessment of the Mozambican off-grid sector and based on that (ii) a design study on mini-grids for the German Financial Cooperation. MARGE provides one of the 4 key experts of the team acting as an “Economist/financial expert”. His role is to provide all the necessary expertise and inputs on financial, economic, regulatory and institutional aspects of mini-grids in Mozambique.
BRILHO Energy Africa Mozambique

BRILHO Energy Africa Mozambique is a project set out by DFID Mozambique aiming at increasing energy access in Mozambique for 1.5 million people and 15,000 businesses and to mobilize GBP 20 million in private funding over the next five years.
MARGE’s role is to provide support on the component 4 of the project: Policy Reform & Institutional Strengthening. This component will strengthen the linkages among government/private sector/financial institutions and improve government capacities to support companies in scaling their operations, while also improving the policy and regulatory environment for off-grid energy; including the financial sector and off-grid energy and telecom companies; while maximizing benefits for women and other vulnerable groups; as well as productive use of energy, such as solar-powered irrigation to increase agricultural production, employment and income, and mobile money opportunities. Improving the policy and regulatory environment in these areas, while strengthening the capacity of the corresponding government agencies, is expected to stimulate private sector delivery of products and services that enable local businesses, increasing their resilience and sustainability.
GET.invest Finance Catalyst

The RECP Finance Catalyst project supports RE project developers in sub-Saharan Africa with free advisory services for the development of their projects towards financial close. The Finance Catalyst supports a wide variety of projects– on-grid or off-grid – ranging from projects with a off-take agreements to companies providing consumer systems. Tailored advisory services are offered until financing is obtained. This means working closely with the project developer, explaining the project to and addressing specific concerns of financiers. The program aims to link projects to financiers around the globe, so that more of Africa gains access to energy.
Support to Africa-EU Private Sector Cooperation through the mobilisation stakeholders from the small hydropower sector

This contract takes place within the Project "Energy Policy in Development Cooperation" between EREF and GIZ. The objective is to contribute to increase the share of small hydropower technologies in Africa by supporting the realization of a maximum of four information and match-making events in sub-Saharan Africa.

The mission consists in studying the energy market and proposing investments opportunities for the German Bank, KfW. The main objectives are as following : 1) make an inventory of the renewable energy sector in the DRC 2) describe the Institutional and legal framework of the sector 3) analyze gaps, challenges and potential of the sector 4) inform of the Congolese government strategies and goals by 2030 5) make recommendations to the KFW on investment opportunities.
